Description
No. 1 Bean Furlong is a cottage dating from around 1700, constructed from coursed limestone and ironstone rubble. It features a thatched roof with flanking brick stacks and consists of two bays across two storeys. The central doorway has a wooden lintel and a part-glazed plank door, with a 20th-century timber porch added. To the right of the door is a three-light window with a wooden lintel, wooden mullions, and an iron casement. On the left, there are similar two-light windows on both the ground and first floors. There is a right-side extension from the 18th century that was heightened in the 20th century, consisting of one bay and two storeys. Inside, the cottage has a stop-chamfered spine beam and joists, along with a fireplace that retains its original bressumer, although the opening has been filled by a 20th-century grate. The staircase is also from the 20th century.
