Description
The George and Dragon Public House is a house that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the late 17th century and was extended in 1734, as indicated by a datestone. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, topped with an asbestos tile roof and features brick and stone stacks. It has two storeys and an attic, with three bays.
The doorway, located in the second bay from the right, has a stone four-centred arch with cut spandrels and a four-panel door. To the left of the doorway, there are two late 17th-century windows, each consisting of five lights with wooden lintels, moulded wooden mullions, and iron casements. On the first floor, there are two similar four-light windows. The bay to the right of the doorway was added in the early 18th century. Above and to the right of the doorway is the datestone TH/1734. The ground-floor windows consist of three lights with wooden lintels, wooden mullions, and iron casements, while there is a similar two-light window on the first floor. The interior has been remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries.
