CHACOMBE BANBURY ROAD (North side) George and Dragon Public House

House, now public house. Late C17, extended 1734 (datestone). Squared coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, asbestos tile roof, brick and stone stacks. 2 storeys and attic, 3 bays. Doorway, second bay from right has stone 4-centred arch and cut spandrels. (-panel door. 2 late C17 windows to left are of 5 lights with wood lintels, moulded wood mullions and iron casements. 2 similar 4-light windows on first floor. Bay to right of doorway added early C18. Datestone TH/1734 above and to right of doorway. Ground-floor windows of 3 lights with wood lintel, wood mullions and iron casements. Similar 2-light window on first floor. Interior: Remodelled C19 and C20. (Wood-Jones, R.B., Traditional Domestic Architecture in the Banbury Region, Mancester 1963, p.214).
