Description
The Gables is a house dating from the late 17th century, constructed from coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, with a slate roof and brick and stone stacks. The building is L-shaped, featuring two storeys and an attic, and has three bays. A 20th-century doorway with a wood lintel and glazed door is located in the second bay from the left. To the left of the doorway is a 17th-century two-light stone mullioned window, while to the right is a blocked window with a 20th-century lintel. In the right bay, there is a 18th or 19th-century three-light window with a wood lintel and iron casements.
On the first floor, the 17th-century windows have square hoods and stone mullions, with three lights in the right bay and two lights in the left and centre bays. The right side of the house features a 17th-century three-light stone mullioned window with a square hood on the ground floor, two similar two-light windows on the first floor, and two one-light windows in the attic, all with a continuous square hood. The gable end is coped and has kneelers.
To the left, there is a projecting wing from the late 17th century, built with similar materials. This wing also has two storeys and an attic, with two bays. The ground floor features 20th-century windows with 17th-century stone hoods, while the first floor has 17th-century stone mullioned two- and three-light windows. The gable end of this wing is also coped and has kneelers. The interior has not been inspected.
