Description
Esquimalt is a house dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, with squared limestone quoins, an asbestos tile roof, and brick stacks. The building has a lobby-entry plan and consists of two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, featuring three bays.
The left bay has a one-light cellar window, while the right bay contains a two-light window with a stone mullion. The doorway in the second bay from the left has a wooden lintel and a four-panel door that is partly glazed. There is a blocked window with a wooden lintel to the left. The left bay also has a two-light window with an original moulded wooden lintel, alongside a 20th-century wooden mullion and transom. A similar window is found in the right bay. On the first floor, there are two-light windows with original moulded wooden lintels and 20th-century wooden casements. The gable ends are coped with kneelers, and there are flanking stacks, with a ridge stack located to the left of centre.
To the right, there is a 20th-century extension that incorporates a former dairy and outbuildings. Inside, there is an original winder staircase to the left of the entrance, and a small room with a stud partition opposite the entrance, which is said to have been a former larder. The interior also features an open fireplace with a bread oven.
