Description

This is a farmhouse, now divided into three dwellings, located on the north side of Mears Ashby, originally listed as Crabtree Cottage. It is reputedly of 17th-century origin, but largely dates to the mid-18th century. The exterior is of regular coursed lias stone, with a slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan. It is two storeys high. Number 1 has a three-window front with irregularly spaced casement windows featuring glazing bars, each set beneath a wooden lintel. The central entrance has a six-panel door with a rectangular fanlight and a reeded wooden surround, also under a wooden lintel. The corner of the left gable shows evidence of a different construction using squared coursed masonry. Brick stacks are situated at the ends of the building. Numbers 2 and 31 have a four-window range of casement windows to the rear of Number 1, each also set under wooden lintels. The interior was not inspected.
