Description
The Griffins Head Public House is a mid-19th century public house located on Wilby Road in Mears Ashby. It is constructed of brick with limestone ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The building has an original H-shape plan designed in the Tudor style and stands two storeys high. The entrance front includes a three-window range with two- and three-light stone mullion windows that have cast-iron lozenge and diamond glazing bars. A central bay features a 20th-century porch. The flanking cross wings project forward, each topped with gables, gable parapets, and finials. There are brick and stone diagonal stacks at the eaves and ridge. Below the central window, there is a stone shield displaying a Griffin head. The interior has been altered in the 20th century.
