Description

The Old Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse, now a house, located on the Wellingborough Road in Mears Ashby. It is constructed of squared coursed lias stone with a slate roof. Originally planned with three units, the house is two storeys high with an attic. The front elevation has a three-window range of 20th-century casement windows set beneath wooden lintels. A late 17th-century gabled eaves dormer is positioned to the left of centre, featuring ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. The central doorway has a 20th-century wooden porch. The roof has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, along with brick and stone stacks at the ridge and end. A small three-storey gable projection is visible at the rear. Inside, the hall contains an original semi-circular staircase well with a 20th-century staircase. A room to the right of the entrance has a 17th-century fireplace with a moulded stone four-centred arch head.
