Description
The Irthlingborough Scouts War Memorial is located in plot 269 of Irthlingborough Cemetery and marks the grave of Arthur Thompson, one of those commemorated. Likely supplied by a local monumental mason, the memorial features a white marble headstone with a kerb surrounding the grave, which includes corner posts. The interior is filled with marble chippings and has a central flower vase.
The headstone has a pedimented top, prominently displaying the Scout fleur-de-lis badge carved in high relief, with a scroll beneath it. Below this, in black lettering, the stone is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE SCOUTS OF IRTHLINGBOROUGH (12 NAMES) WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES DURING THE WAR 1914-1919." Additionally, the kerb features an inscription in applied metal letters that records the burial of Arthur Thompson.
