Description
The memorial stands on the south side of the road, opposite The Green in Thriplow. Built of Portland stone, it comprises a narrow stone of remembrance c1.85m tall, rectangular in plan and surmounted by a low block of stone on which is carved THRIPLOW. The stone is flanked by narrow, tapered, pilasters. A stone laurel wreath carved in relief decorates the upper face of the stone.
The principal dedicatory inscription on the front face of the memorial, carved either side of the laurel wreath, reads IN HONOUR OF THOSE/ WHO FOUGHT AND IN MEMORY/ OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914-1919/ (13 NAMES). In addition, another inscription below reads AND THE WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945/ (3 NAMES). All inscriptions are incised.
The memorial is enclosed to the rear by a yew hedge, with a metal railing to the sides and front. Access to the memorial is through an opening in the front rail. The memorial stands on a paved surface of York stone and is approached from the pavement by a narrow path.
