Description
The Thriplow War Memorial is located on the south side of the road, opposite The Green in Thriplow. Constructed from Portland stone, it features a narrow remembrance stone approximately 1.85 meters tall, which has a rectangular shape and is topped with a low stone block that is inscribed with the word "THRIPLOW." The stone is flanked by narrow, tapered pilasters, and a stone laurel wreath is carved in relief on the upper face of the stone.
The main dedicatory inscription on the front of the memorial, carved on either side of the laurel wreath, reads: "IN HONOUR OF THOSE/ WHO FOUGHT AND IN MEMORY/ OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914-1919/ (13 NAMES)." Below this, another inscription states: "AND THE WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945/ (3 NAMES)." All inscriptions are incised.
At the rear, the memorial is enclosed by a yew hedge, while metal railings border the sides and front. Access to the memorial is provided through an opening in the front railing. It stands on a paved surface made of York stone and is approached from the pavement by a narrow path.
