Description

The Feltham War Memorial is a stone monument erected around 1920, with additional names and dedications added in the later 20th century. Constructed from Portland stone, it features marble plaques. The memorial has a rectangular plan, topped with a plain tomb chest featuring a moulded cover and a carved relief laurel wreath. It stands on a tall plinth, supported by a stepped base. The plinth is set back on its upper section, displaying a high-set relief carving of a laurel leaf. The entire structure sits on a wide base with a cyma recta moulding. The principal face displays the inscription 'IN MEMORY OF THOSE/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ DURING THE/ 1939 - 1945 WAR'. Below this is a large plaque inscribed 'OUR/ ILLUSTRIOUS DEAD/ 1914-1918', alongside the names of those who died during the First World War. Smaller plaques on the side faces bear further names. The rear face is dedicated to the Second World War, with a plaque inscribed '1939-1945' and the names of the fallen, along with the dedication 'AND ALL THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES FROM/ ENEMY ACTION IN THIS AREA'. A secondary plaque below the main plaque contains two additional names.
