Description
The tombstone for Ann and Joseph Pope is located in St Dunstan's Churchyard and dates back to the 18th century. Made of Portland stone, the headstone features a moulded top with flanking scrolls, representing a typical mid-18th century design. Notably, it includes a relief of a classical tripod, indicating the growing influence of Neoclassicism on headstone design. The inscription contains two epitaphs, with the upper one expressing deep affection: "Adieu thou loving partner of my Days / and thou tender plant the Pleasing / offspring of conjugal affection, let / it be thy Parents grand care to / [...] thy mind, that I may enjoy / thee more perfectly." The footstone to the east is marked with "AP 1785."
