Irthlingborough War Memorial

The Irthlingborough War Memorial is located in a small enclosure on the south-west side of Finedon Road, a distance from central Irthlingborough. The memorial stands approximately 8 meters tall and is made of limestone. It features a fluted, circular column topped with a ball finial, from which an ornate metal cross rises. The finial is placed on an urn-shaped pedestal, with each side adorned with flower symbols of the United Kingdom, carved in low relief and gilded.

The column is supported by a three-stage, stepped base, consisting of one square section above two octagonal ones. A slate plaque on the front face of the uppermost stage bears the inscription: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN/ AFFECTIONATE REMEMBRANCE/ OF THE MEN OF IRTHLINGBOROUGH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918." On the rear face of this stage, another slate plaque is inscribed with "LEST WE FORGET." The two side faces display similar plaques listing the names of those who fell in 1939-1945, while slate plaques around the second tier of the base commemorate those who died in the First World War.

The memorial is set within a small flagged enclosure, which is defined at the front by concrete posts and iron railings, with hedges enclosing the sides and rear. A red brick structure, which is not of special interest, provides seating in the center of the front of the enclosure.
