Description
The Irthlingborough Town Council Offices, originally a dovecote, likely dates from the late 17th century and was altered in the late 19th century. The building is constructed from regular coursed limestone and features a pantile roof. It has a rectangular plan and is now two storeys tall. The ground floor has a two-window range of 19th-century two-light stone mullion windows, with a central plank door set in a moulded stone surround. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and an ashlar stack at one end. The rear elevation includes a two-window range of late 19th or early 20th-century casement windows. Inside, there are exposed nesting boxes on the staircase, and an open fireplace with a bressumer that may have been reset in the late 19th century. This building was probably a dovecote for the Manor House and Upper Manor, which are now demolished.
