Description
Thorney Hill War Memorial is made of Portland stone. The memorial features a short-armed ring cross head with chamfered edges, which sits on a tapering octagonal shaft. The face of the shaft is adorned with a carved Sword of Sacrifice, and the base of the shaft is moulded.
The cross is placed on an octagonal plinth that rests on a three-stepped octagonal base. The top of the plinth is cylindrical and displays the main inscription in capital letters, while the lower part has a two-stepped octagonal section that lists names. The cylindrical part of the plinth reads: "REMEMBER THE MEN OF THORNEY HILL WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918." The lower sections of the plinth include the words: "THEIR NAME / LIVETH FOR / EVERMORE," along with the names of eighteen individuals who served in the First World War and nine from the Second World War.
