Description
The terrace wall in front of the garden facade of Avon Tyrrell House was built in 1891 by W R Lethaby. It is constructed of brick and stone and runs along the entire garden front. The brick walls feature a stylised stone balustrade with turned balusters, square-section newels, a base, and a handrail. There is an approximate central flight of 10 stone steps. At either end of the balustrades, there are brick piers topped with stone cylinders that have ropework decoration. On either side of the steps, stone walls are present with round end piers that also feature similar decorative cylinders. The wall turns a corner at one end, above lower terraces.
