Description
Shirley House is a farmhouse that dates from the late 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century, and extensions added in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building features a cruck timber-frame that has been encased and extended in painted brick, with old plain tile and slate roofs. It has a two-storey, three-bay front range from the 18th century, a tall block from the 19th century behind it, and a 1½ storey, three-bay range from the 15th century at the rear. The front of the house includes a central half-octagonal, half-glazed porch with a hipped roof. Each bay on the ground floor has two or three-light segmental head casements, while the first floor features three-light casements. The roof is half-hipped to the right-hand side. There are ridge stacks located to the right of the centre and at the left end. Inside the rear 15th-century range, the raised base crucks with cut tie beams are still visible.
