Description

No. 24 Church Street is a house from the early 18th century. It is built of coursed squared limestone with ironstone dressings at the front and coursed limestone rubble at the rear. The steeply-pitched slate roof was originally thatched and features brick stacks at the ridge and rear gable end. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a gable end facing the street. The gable end displays raised quoins and bands in ironstone, a central entrance with a 20th-century door, and two-light small-paned casement windows on the first floor and attic, all adorned with triple keystones and quoins. There is a shaped stone panel in the gable, which may have been a datestone but is now illegible, and the gable is coped. The left front has similar detailing but is flush with the wall surface. The ground floor features four two-light casement windows, with the second and fourth located in blocked doorways, all having keystones. The first floor has two two-light casement windows, and the eaves are raised in ironstone. A late 19th or early 20th-century dormer is present on the rear slope of the roof. The interior was not inspected. To the right, there is a small yellow brick addition with two large windows and a 20th-century tile roof, which is not of special interest.
