Description
No. 16 Church Street is a house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is built of coursed limestone rubble with some ironstone and has a 20th-century tile roof that replaced the original thatch, along with brick stacks at each end. The house has a two-unit plan and is two storeys high. The eaves have been raised and plastered, and the gables are coped on shaped kneelers, covered by the current roof.
The ground floor features two-light windows and a three-light shop window, all beneath timber lintels, while there are no openings on the first floor facing the street. The right gable end has an entrance with two windows above and some blocked openings. To the left, there is a low addition that contains one three-light window.
Inside, the layout has been altered, but it still retains some original features, including stop-chamfered spine beams, one two-panel door in a pegged frame, and a small fireplace in what was the right-hand ground floor room.
