Description

No. 5 Mill Road is a house that dates from the early 18th century and was remodeled in the early 19th century. It is constructed from squared coursed limestone and has a roof made of Welsh slate and pantiles. The building was likely originally designed with a three-unit plan and stands two storeys tall.

On the elevation facing Main Street, there is an 8-paned, unhorned sash window on the ground floor to the right, which is set under a wooden lintel. To the left on the first floor, there is a 19th-century casement window positioned under the eaves. There are also two single-light windows located to the right of centre on the ground floor. The central door, which is from the 20th century, is set beneath a rendered head. The gable parapets, made of ashlar, have been partially rebuilt in brick on the left side. The house features brick and ashlar chimney stacks at both ends, as well as a lateral brick stack to the left of centre.

To the right, there is a 20th-century extension with a lean-to roof covered in old pantiles. The rear elevation includes a central rendered porch with canted sides and a bay window above it. There are similar bay windows with sash windows featuring glazing bars on the ground floor flanking the porch. A sash window is located to the far left, while a casement window is found to the far right. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade that abuts the flanking walls.
