Description
No. 48 West End is a house dating from the early to mid-18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled concrete tile roof, with Welsh slates on the rear and stone stacks at each end. Originally a two-unit plan, it was extended to a double-depth plan in the late 19th century. The house has two storeys and an attic, with a two-window range. The entrance features a beaded four-panelled door set within a mid-19th century moulded wood architrave, topped by a bracketed flat hood. Above, there are eight-pane sash windows with concrete-rendered architraves, and a gabled roof dormer. At the rear, there is a two-storey outshut made of colourwashed brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof. Inside, the house has a remodelled open fireplace and a 19th century quarter-turn staircase. The first floor includes chamfered beams and a stud partition with wattle and daub infill. The roof structure has butt-purlins, though the collars have been removed. This building is included for its group value.
