Description

This is a house, dating from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally designed with a 2-unit plan and a cross passage, the house now appears as a single storey with an attic. It has a 5-window front. The right-hand 2-window range is from the 17th century and features a 2-storey, 5-light canted bay window with ovolo moulded stone mullions. It has an ashlar gablet with parapets and kneelers. Further windows on the right side have a similar design, including a 3-light stone mullion window to the ground floor and an attic window set within a stone eaves dormer with similar ashlar parapets and kneelers. All stone mullion windows are topped with hood moulds. The left-hand 3-window range is from the 19th century and has casement windows under the eaves on the first floor, and plain 20th-century casement windows on the ground floor, set beneath renewed wooden lintels. A 20th-century door is centrally located and features a 17th-century moulded stone surround with a square head. The eaves are at two levels, with ashlar gable parapets on the left and brick and ashlar stacks positioned at the ridge and end of the building. The rear of the house has 2-light stone mullion windows. Internally, rooms to the left and right of the entrance have open fireplaces with bressumers. Cross-passage rooms are located at the back of the central stack. Three bays to the left of the main front were remodelled in the 19th century and subdivided to form two separate dwellings.
