Description

This is an early 19th-century building on West Street. It is two storeys high and taller than the adjacent property. The exterior is faced with ashlar stone, featuring a deep parapet and a very steep roof, with brick chimney stacks. There are four windows to the first floor, each with sash windows in plain reveals and flat-arched heads. A platband runs above and below the second storey. The house entrance is located off-centre to the west, with a stone doorcase featuring pilasters and a simple entablature, topped by a radiating fanlight, although the doorway has now been filled in with a window. A late 19th-century shop front occupies the right-hand side. A wide entry previously existed on the left. Nos. 2 to 36 (even), 42 to 46A (even), 52 to 98 (even) form a group.
