Description
MARKET PLACE 1. (South Side) 1483 ------------ Nos 4 & 6 TL 0488 1/87 18.6.55.

- These 2 houses form 1 architectural unit, but oddly No 6 has a heavy eaves cornice, No 4 has not. Early C18. 2 storeys in ashlar with steep stone slate roofs with raised verge at centre and both ends. Heavy stone chimney at centre and west end. 6 pedimented dormers in all, 2 triangular and centre segmental on both. Both have 5 windows to 1st floor and in addition there is a blind window in the centre. A continuous band links the cills. The windows are early sash with heavy glazing bars, narrow moulded cases, plain reveals, stone lintels with triple keystones. 2 more early windows survive complete at the west end of the ground floor of No 4 and above these the only remains of a platband. No 4 also has a good C19 shop front. The entire ground floor of No 6 is taken up by a late shop. Central doorway to passage between the houses, heavy rusticated doorcase with cornice, semi-circular headed doorway with panelled door and panelled inset above.
