Description

This is an early to mid-19th century building comprising two properties, Nos. 39 and 40 Downing Street. It is three storeys high and features four bays for each property, with the pair of bays flanked by giant plain pilasters. The slate roof is gabled, with stacks on either side. The front is stuccoed and features an eaves cornice with brackets. The windows are sash windows with three panes per sash, set within reveals and have moulded stucco surrounds, with lugs beneath the sills. A segmental-headed doorway is located at the left-hand end of the ground floor, with a plain door and a segmental fanlight above. Modern shop fronts are also present on the ground floor. Nos. 37 to 41 Downing Street form a group.
