Description
22 Downing Street is a building that originally dates from the late 18th century but was refronted in 1949 in a Georgian style based on the design by G. Maxwell Aylwin. It is a two-storey structure with a three-bay front made of brick and features a capped parapet.
The upper level has two windows with architrave frames that are positioned on either side of a shallow splayed oriel bay, which is supported by coved corbelling and has a coved canopy above. On the ground floor, there is a modern glazed door topped with a triangular pediment, set within a doorcase that features Doric pilasters, an entablature, and a pediment. The doorway is flanked on both sides by modern Regency style bow fronted shop windows. Each window is also flanked by pilasters, with an entablature and a moulded cornice above.
This building, along with No. 18, forms a group.
