Description

This early 19th-century shop and house stands on the west side of Bank Street in Melksham. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a stone slate roof, topped by an ashlar chimney stack to the left. The building is three storeys high and has a four-window facade. A six-panelled door is located on the left-hand side of the ground floor, alongside a 20th-century shop front. A section of a moulded string course remains above the door. The first floor features four sets of sash windows in moulded architraves, each with a central mullion; the second bay is blind. The upper sash panes are plate glass. The second floor has four four-pane sashes in similar moulded architraves. The building is finished with a moulded cornice and blocking course. It is listed despite the 20th-century shop front due to its well-preserved Georgian character.
