Description
No 1 Bank Street is a shop and house built in the early 18th century, featuring a late 19th-century facade. The building is constructed of painted ashlar with a stone slate roof. It is the central unit of a block of four, situated between No 3 Bank Street on the right and Nos 53 and 55 High Street on the left.
The structure is two stories high with two windows. The ground floor is vermiculated and includes a central canted bay with columns and scrolled imposts supporting roll-moulded round-arched windows. To the left, there is a round-arched door on columns with scrolled imposts and a cornice above. To the right, there is a 20th-century shop front.
On the first floor, there is a central group of three stilted segmental-arched windows in roll-moulded cases with foliated capitals and a slightly projecting panel. To the right, there is a single stilted segmental-arched window with a roll-moulded case. The building features a moulded cornice and blocking course at the roof, along with a single hipped dormer.
