Description
Nos 53 and 55 on High Street are two shops dating from the early 18th century. They are constructed from roughcast rubblestone and feature a stone slate hipped roof. The buildings are two storeys tall with an attic and have four windows in total. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts, while the first floor showcases four stone cross windows and a moulded eaves cornice with a blocking course. Above No 55, there are two hipped dormers. The left side of the building has three cross windows on the first floor, continuing the eaves cornice and blocking course from the front, along with a decorated cast-iron rainwater head on the right. At the rear, there is a 19th-century ashlar wing with sash windows. These buildings are included in the register despite the modern shop fronts due to their group value with No 1 Bank Street, which is part of the same 18th-century block.
