Description

This is a late 18th-century attached house in Melksham. The front is built of ashlar stone, with rubble stone to the sides, and is covered by a stone slate roof with coped verges and ashlar stacks. The house is two storeys high and has three windows across the front. A central six-panelled door, raised three steps, is set within a beaded surround and has a flat stone hood supported by brackets. Flanking the door are paired 12-pane sash windows in beaded surrounds with a central mullion. The first floor has three 12-pane sash windows in beaded surrounds above a moulded string course. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the building, and there is one hipped dormer window. Attached to the right is a single-storey outbuilding constructed of rubble stone, featuring a chamfered door case and a hipped dormer. The right return side has a single casement window in a cyma-moulded surround. The interior remains uninspected. The group value context of this listing signifies that the building contributes to the character of its surrounding area.
