Description

The War Memorial located in St Mary's Churchyard is a Grade II listed structure, commemorating the First World War and dating from around 1920. It is made of ashlar and features a finely carved design resembling a churchyard cross. The memorial consists of a square plinth that stands on two octagonal steps. The plinth is inscribed with the names of 14 individuals from the parish who lost their lives in the war. Above the plinth, an octagonal shaft rises, topped with a carved crucifix. A notable and unusual feature of the memorial is the depiction of a Mother and Child situated at the rear of Christ. This well-designed and intricately carved War Memorial is part of a group with the Church of St Mary.
