Description
14 and 15 Lower Benefield are two houses dating from 1730. They are built of squared coursed limestone and feature thatch and Collyweston slate roofs. Each house originally has a two-unit plan, together forming an L-shape range.
The main front of No. 14 has a three-window arrangement with two- and three-light casements that include glazing bars, all set under gauged stone heads with keyblocks. There is a central panelled door with glazed toplights, also under a similar stone head. The gable parapets and kneelers are made of ashlar, and there are ashlar stacks at both ends.
To the right, the main front of No. 15 features a two-window range of 19th-century casements under wooden lintels. A 20th-century door is positioned to the right of centre, also under a wooden lintel. There is a central ashlar stack, and the roofs meet at a right angle with a Collyweston slate valley. The rear elevation of No. 14 includes a 20th-century lean-to porch. The datestone is located in the left gable of No. 14. No. 15 is likely an earlier build, and its interior contains spine beams.
