Description
Nos. 25 and 26 in Lower Benefield are a house that has been converted into two dwellings. The building dates from the mid-17th century and features a datestone, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and has a Collyweston slate roof. The original layout was likely a three-unit plan. The house is two storeys high and has a four-window range on the first floor, featuring 19th-century style casement windows under wooden lintels. On the ground floor, there are two three-light, ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows at the far left and right, along with a 19th-century style casement window to the left of centre, also under a wooden lintel. In the centre, there are two 19th-century plank doors beneath shallow brick arches, with a single-light window between them. The building has ashlar stacks at both ends, with the left stack displaying a partially legible date. It was likely converted into two separate dwellings in the 19th century by the Biggin Hall estate.
