Description

The North Creake War Memorial is located in the churchyard on the south side of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I-listed building, just outside the porch. Made of limestone, the memorial features a canopied, floriated cross-head that rises from the moulded collar of a tall octagonal shaft. This shaft is set on a square plinth with a broad single-stepped base beneath it. The plinth is inscribed with lettering.

The main dedicatory inscription on the front face of the plinth reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ WHO GAVE THE VICTORY/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO GAVE UP THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918/ THIS CROSS IS ERECTED 1920." The names of those commemorated from the First World War are listed on two other faces of the plinth. The dedication for the Second World War is found on the rear face and reads: "ALSO IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THOSE WHO DIED/ IN THE WAR 1939 - 1945/ (NAMES)."
