Description

A stable range dating from the 1870s, situated immediately east of the barn at Cross House Farm. The building is constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with pantile roofs and brick coped gable ends. The plan is L-shaped. The north front, which is the front of the range, features an elliptical arch at the centre, leading to a central entrance lobby and tack room, flanked by two stable bays. There are two-light casement windows on the front, and small sash windows within the end gables all set within cambered brick arches. The rear wing, to the south, has a front with three plank doors and two windows, also with cambered brick arches. Inside the tack room is a small brick fireplace and saddle racks. The stables in the north range have wooden ventilator roundels in the ceilings. Cross House Farm is one of three farms on the Earl Spencer’s 3,000 acre North Creake estate.
