Description

The Cottage, attached to the east of The Shires, is a house dating from 1622, with elements from the 18th century and mid-19th century. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and brick, topped with a concrete tile roof. The building is two storeys high and features a gable end facing the road, which has a single-window range of 20th-century casements with glazing bars, all set under wooden lintels. To the right, there is a 20th-century door, also under a wooden lintel, with a rectangular fanlight above it. The apex of the gable has a blocked attic window, again under a wooden lintel. The gable has an ashlar parapet and finial, along with a large ashlar stack at the rear. The 18th-century range at the back was raised in the 19th century. The interior has not been inspected. Originally, this house may have served as a cross wing to The Shires.
