Description
The Cock Public House is a public house that dates back to 1593, with alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a pantile roof. The building originally had a three-unit plan and stands two storeys high. The front has a three-window range, including two 16th-century three-light stone mullion windows on the left side of the first floor, and evidence of a similar window on the ground floor to the right. There is a 19th-century casement window with glazing bars under a wooden lintel on the right side of the first floor, and a 19th-century square bay window below it. The other windows are from the 20th century. To the left of the centre, there is a four-panel door under a wooden lintel, which has a rectangular fanlight above it. The roof is from the 19th century and has brick stacks at both ends, as well as a lateral brick stack in the centre. There is evidence of some changes to the windows on the ground floor to the right. A datestone is located to the right of the centre. At the rear, there is a late 18th or early 19th-century wing that has casement windows under wooden lintels. Attached to the back of this wing is a 19th-century shop front, which is now disused. Inside, the building features spine beams and remnants of an open fireplace.
