Description
The Ringstead War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Grade I-listed Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, overlooking the village street. This memorial takes the form of a granite cross, featuring simple raised interlace on the front of the shaft. The front face of its tapering plinth bears a dedication in applied metal lettering that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD. IN PIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF RINGSTEAD WHO FELL DURING THE GREAT WAR AND IN GRATITUDE FOR THE MERCIES OF A LIFETIME THIS CROSS IS THE HUMBLE OFFERING OF HERBERT ALFRED BILLSON, WHO LOVED THE VILLAGE. JESU MERCY."
The names of those who fell in the First World War, as well as those who died in the Second World War and one individual who died in 1967, are inscribed on the other faces of the plinth. The plinth is set on a three-stepped granite base.
The concrete-flagged path and approach surrounding the memorial are not included in the listing.
