Description

Number 18, The Paddock, is a house dating from the 17th century with later 19th-century additions, located on the south side of High Street, Easton on the Hill. Originally a single-unit plan, it has been extended to form a T-shape. The house is constructed from squared coursed limestone, with a Collyweston slate roof. The front elevation facing the High Street has a single-window range featuring a 19th-century casement window with a wooden lintel. Attached to the right is a single-storey extension of similar design, with a matching window in its return wall. A rebuilt brick stack is positioned at the end of the house. An elevation to the left features two storeys, displaying a two-window range of 19th-century casement windows set within shallow stone arches. A 20th-century door, also under a similar arch, is located to the right. Attached to the left of this elevation are outbuildings, initially a separate dwelling. These outbuildings have a three-window range of 19th-century style casement windows, with wooden and concrete lintels, and include two plank doors between the windows. A cart entrance is located at the far left. The interior of the room abutting the High Street represents the original single-unit house and retains an open fireplace with a bressumer. Several early 19th-century six-panel doors are also present. The outbuildings are reported to contain a fireplace with an enriched surround.
