Description
Nos. 4 and 6 High Street is a house and forge that has been converted into two dwellings. It dates from the 17th and 18th to 19th centuries and was restored in the 20th century. The building is constructed of regularly coursed limestone and lias, topped with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally, it had a three-unit plan and is now a single storey with an attic. The front features an irregular three-window arrangement of 20th-century casements set beneath wooden lintels. A central fire window has a chamfered stone surround, and there are three gabled eaves dormers in the attic, each with 20th-century casements. The central entrance door is also from the 20th century and is located under a concrete lintel. To the left, there is a lean-to extension from the 18th or 19th century, while to the right, there is a gabled extension that includes a stable door on the return wall. A 20th-century door is also found in the return wall of the lean-to. The building features a large central stone stack and brick and stone stacks at either end. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have remains of an open fireplace.
