Description

The Abbey is a house located on Stamford Road in Easton on the Hill, with a datestone marking its construction in 1702. The building was extended and remodeled in the early to mid-19th century. It is made of squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and features a Collyweston slate roof. The house has an L-shaped plan and stands two storeys tall. The main front has a three-window range, with a central 20th-century part-glazed door that has ashlar dressings. The windows are six-panel, unhorned, sash windows, also with ashlar dressings, and there are ashlar quoins at the corners. The roof is hipped and has lateral stone stacks, with a datestone likely reset on the left stack. A sundial with the inscription "Naro Vera" is located on the first floor to the right of the main front. At the rear, there is a three-window range of leaded casements under wooden lintels. Inside, the kitchen in the rear range likely has a blocked open fireplace, and there is an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade.
