Description
No. 2 Grafton Road is a cottage, which was once a barn, likely built in the 17th century. It features coursed limestone rubble with some ironstone and has a thatched roof on the front slope, while the rear is covered with old interlocking concrete tiles. There is a brick ridge stack. The building is one storey with an attic.
On the ground floor, there is a plain board door with a small window and a wooden lintel, a three-light gudgeon-hung iron-framed casement window, a two-light fixed light window in a blocked wide opening, and a three-light early 20th-century casement window, all with wooden lintels. Above, there are two eyebrow dormers with two-light casements, one of which is iron-framed. The rear of the building shows two separate constructions, including a blocked barn doorway in the earlier part that contains a small three-light window with some original leading and glass. There is also a rendered one-storey rear addition with a pantiled roof and a small 20th-century lean-to brick addition at the gable end.
Inside, the left-hand ground floor room features a rudimentary timber-framed inglenook, a chamfered cross-beam, and a wall-boarded door. The right-hand ground floor room has a wall cupboard with H-hinges. The left-hand part of the building includes a pair of raised crucks with a reused cambered collar.
