Description

The Geddington War Memorial is located in the churchyard, south-west of the Grade I listed church of St Mary Magdalene. It features a 9-meter high floriated Latin cross with the letters IHS in a shield at the top. The cross-head is mounted on a hexagonal pillar, which rises from a square plinth that sits on a two-stepped octagonal base. The plinth is inscribed with "1914 – 1918/ IN UNDYING MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF GEDDINGTON/ WHO IN THE GREAT WAR/ GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR US." An additional inscription, "ALSO/ 1939-1945," has been added below on the top step of the base. Nearby, on the outer west wall of the church's south aisle, there are three tablets that display names and additional inscriptions. The outer concrete path surrounding the memorial is not included in the listing.
