Description
Old Thatch is a house that dates back to the late 16th century, with later extensions from the 17th and 18th centuries. The building features a timber-frame structure, which is exposed on the left gable and has two posts visible at the front. The front has been rebuilt in whitewashed brick and is topped with a thatched roof. There are two chimneys: a rebuilt brick chimney between the left bays and a smaller chimney between the right bays. The house is 1 ½ storeys high and consists of four bays.
The left bay includes a small 17th-century three-light casement window, partly leaded, set into the thatch, along with a single leaded casement window below the eaves in line with the chimney, and a 20th-century single wooden casement window below that. The remaining bays have two and three-light wooden casement windows, with the ground floor windows featuring bars and cambered heads, while the first-floor windows are set into the thatch. There are 20th-century doors located to the left and center of the building.
At the rear, there are later extensions which include a small half-timbered and thatched wing that is positioned at right angles to the main structure. Inside, the interior reveals timber framing in the rear walls and trusses, along with heavy curved wind-braces in the center bays. The spine beams are stop-chamfered, with the one in the right bay being from the 20th century.
