Description

Hickwell House is a house dating back to the 17th century, with extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries and subsequent alterations. It is timber-framed with diagonal bracing and brick infill, and has a thatched roof, half-hipped to the right. The roof is punctuated by brick chimneys with rebuilt, diagonally-set square shafts; one is located to the left, and two are situated between the right-hand bays. The house is one and a half storeys high and originally comprised three bays. The left-hand bays feature 20th-century leaded casement windows, with a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window in semi-dormers with glazed gables. The right-hand bay contains a six-panelled door, with a toplight to the left. An 18th or 19th century extension to the left is constructed of colourwashed brick with a thatched roof and a single bay of similarly styled casement windows, which are irregularly placed. Timber-framed projections and 19th-century brick extensions are visible to the rear.
