Description
Hook's Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the late 16th century, with a 17th-century extension and a small early 19th-century wing at the rear. The earlier parts of the building are timber framed with whitewashed brick infill, and some timbers are rendered and painted. The left end wall features curved braces. The roof is covered with old tiles and has a central chimney with grouped shafts made of thin brick and an offset head, along with other later brick chimneys.
The house has two storeys, with the left bays having raised eaves but being slightly lower than the right block. The left bay is blind, while the rest of the façade is irregular, featuring 19th and 20th-century wooden casements with two and three lights. The upper window of the second bay is set in a flat-roofed semi-dormer. A flush-panelled door leads to a central passage and has a flat hood supported by wooden brackets, with a blocked original two-light window above it. The rear extension is made of colourwashed brick and includes a canted bay window with sash windows.
Inside, the left bays have curved wall bracing, while the 17th-century bays feature heavy straight braces and wind-braces. The building also has stop-chamfered spine beams, with the second bay displaying similar cross beams.
