Description
Rookery Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th to 17th century. It features a timber frame with diagonal braces and whitewashed brick infill in the end bays and rear, along with a whitewashed rubble stone plinth. The front of the centre bay has been rebuilt with whitewashed rubble stone on the ground floor and brick above. The roof is half-hipped and covered with old tiles, and there are two brick chimneys located off-centre to the right.
The building stands two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has three-light wooden casement windows with horizontal glazing bars, although the upper left window is from the 20th century. The lower right-hand windows have segmental heads, one of which features a rendered voussoir. A flush panelled door is situated between the right-hand bays, with a Sun fire insurance plaque displayed above it.
At the rear, there are 20th-century casements and an 18th-century two-storey brick extension with a tiled roof, creating an L-shaped plan. Additionally, there is a 19th-century bay that has been converted into a garage and is attached to the gable of the extension.
Inside, the centre room on the ground floor features a moulded and stopped spine beam and a section of painted frieze adorned with floral motifs and a shield bearing the date of 1628. A spiral staircase is present, and the upper left-hand rooms were likely once open to the roof. The ground floor also contains one original oak window with moulded jambs and a central mullion, along with two diamond mullions.
