Description
This is a cottage dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, with possible origins in an earlier period. It is constructed with whitewashed brick over a timber frame. The roof is now covered with corrugated iron over thatch, and features a thin brick chimney in the centre and a later external brick chimney to the right. The cottage is one storey and has an attic. The front of the building has paired 20th-century metal casement windows. A lean-to extension provides access to the rear of the property. A gable facing the street has similar casement windows on both floors, and a flush-panelled door is located in a lean-to extension to the left. Inside, the ground floor room to the right contains a deeply chamfered spine beam with run-out stops, and traces of paintings are visible on the beams in the centre wall. There is a timber-framed fireplace with lathe and plaster infill, the upper part incorporating curved timber, which may have originally been part of a cruck beam. A spiral staircase is located in line with the fireplace.
