Description

Rose Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, although it was altered and largely refronted with brickwork in the early 20th century. The rear wall, internal partitions, and upper gables retain timber frame construction, while the front and lower gable ends are red brick. A rubble stone plinth runs along the base. The roof is steeply pitched and covered in asbestos slate. A central chimney is made of 17th-century brick. The house is 1½ storeys high and has two bays. Early 20th-century windows with barred wooden casements are present; the ground floor windows have segmental heads, and those to the first floor are set in semi-dormers. A blocked doorway in the centre has been replaced with a 20th-century two-light casement. Later 19th and 20th-century extensions are located at the rear.
