Description

Rose Cottage is a house that originally dates from the late 16th century, with two bays to the south, and was extended to the north with two additional bays in the early 17th century. It now includes a single bay outbuilding from the 17th to 18th century to the north. The structure features a timber frame with diagonal braces, whitewashed brick infill, and a whitewashed rubble stone plinth. The northern bay has whitewashed brick on the east side and weatherboard on the west. The roof is half-hipped thatch with a central chimney made of thin bricks. The two late 16th-century bays are two storeys high, while the 17th-century bays are one storey with an attic. The windows are irregular leaded casements, with those on the first floor of the 17th-century bays located in dormers that have tiled aprons. There is a boarded door at the center and a 20th-century door in the northern bay. The gable facing the lane features leaded casements: a three-light window on the ground floor and a five-light window on the first floor, along with a 20th-century door and a single light window to the left. Inside, there is a double-sided fireplace with a timber-framed and plastered hood, and a fireback dated 1610. The interior also includes stop-chamfered spine beams and a stair head with barley sugar balusters.
