Description

The Old Rectory is a house dating from 1784, with side wings added around 1910-1930. It is built of red brick with a moulded brick plinth, and features white painted stone dressings including a band at the impost level of the central bay, a first floor band course, cornice, a moulded pediment, and coping to the parapet. The roof is a half-hipped Mansard roof covered in old tiles, with brick chimneys at the ends of the ridge.

The north front has three bays, with the outer ones slightly projecting, all beneath a single pediment incorporating a segmental plastered fan in the style of Robert Adam. The outer bays contain tripartite barred sash windows, with round arched heads to the basement level, tall three-pane sashes to the ground floor and sash windows with marginal glazing to the first floor. The central bay has ten moulded steps with a wrought iron balustrade leading up to a flush-panelled door within a wooden doorcase that includes paired pilaster strips, a moulded cornice on scroll brackets and a semi-circular fanlight with radiating wrought iron glazing bars. A three-pane sash window is positioned above the door. All openings are framed with gauged brick heads or arches. There are attic windows to the sides. The south front is similar but features a nine-panelled door, a smaller fanlight, and all sashes are three-pane.

Single-storey flanking wings have white painted stone band courses and parapets with similar coping. Each wing has a Doric portico on the south side.
